The Story of Our Logo

Our name and logo are rooted in Kno’Qoti, the sacred mountain known to the Elem people as the “two sisters.” While most visitors know this dormant volcano as Mt. Konocti, its true name in the Hay’Tsno language is Kno’Qoti. Kno means “mountain,” and Qoti translates to “two ladies.”

From our village on the eastern shore of Xabatin (Clearlake), the twin peaks of the sisters rise above the horizon. This mountain has always carried deep spiritual and cultural significance for the tribal peoples of Lake County. Depending on where their villages stood, neighboring tribes had different names for this sacred place, but all acknowledged its power and importance.

Key Elements

The Mountain (Kno’Qoti)
The silhouette of the two peaks honors our homeland and the spiritual center of our people. It is both a reminder of our resilience and a guiding landmark that continues to connect us to our ancestors.

The Waters of Xabatin (Clearlake)
Flowing beneath the mountain in the logo, the waters represent life, healing, and balance. Xabatin is central to our identity and survival, nourishing our people since time immemorial.

Pomo Basketry
The basket pattern woven into the design pays tribute to the artistry and traditions of our people. Basket weaving is not only a skill but also a form of cultural knowledge, teaching patience, discipline, and connection to the natural world. The designs reflect our ties to land, water, and spirit.

Traditional Patterns Around the Seal
The border incorporates cultural designs that symbolize protection, continuity, and unity. It frames the logo much like our traditions frame the work we do today, grounding us in who we are while guiding how we serve our communities.

Our logo is more than a design; it is a cultural seal of identity and sovereignty. Each element reflects our responsibility to protect wellness, revitalize traditions, and honor the teachings of our ancestors.

Just as Kno’Qoti and Xabatin have sustained our people across generations, Kno’Qoti Native Wellness, Inc. works to sustain the health, culture, and future of our tribal communities today.
